Jenny Humphrys has more than twenty five years’ experience delivering on time and within budget for the Commonwealth Government. Jenny has extensive experience working with economic statistics, turning data into information to enable evidence to support informed decision-making.

She is currently working in the Department of Social Services leading the Data Access Branch, providing the department’s centralised data access capabilities, that supports the data needs for policy development, servicing the Ministers Office, and public releases.  She has 17 year experience at the Australian Bureau of Statics, leading team to delivering economic statistics providing information on how the labour market is performing, how it is changing over time, and insights into the economic, population and social dimensions of work.

A career highlight was working as the Australian Taxation Office/Australian Bureau of Statistics strategic partnership manager, where she delivered Single Touch Payroll data (STP) as official ABS statistics to inform on economic recovery from COVID-19. She provided near real time picture of jobs at a time when Government needed the information to respond to an unprecedented national emergency, without adding extra reporting burden for businesses or households.

International experiences includes a 12-month posting as Strategic Advisor to the Seychelles National Bureau of Statistics to progress their statistical reform package, and capability building in Indonesia.  She lead the development of the Australia Labour Account, a model to capture different data sources and present a coherent picture of jobs, employed persons, hours worked and wages.  This innovation received international recognition and published in the International Statistical Journal of IOS and presenting at the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and Pacific.
